The current proposal by Joana Cera (Barcelona, 1965), full of symbolic registers, invites us to consider time in its multiple versions: earthly and cosmic time; the time that connects with other dimensions; cyclical time, which opens the game of possibilities and changes; spiritual time.

A time that is running out. Or perhaps it has already run out. Where every minute counts; every second.

The world is besieged by political, social, and environmental conflicts. The artist’s intervention at the Casal Solleric raises the need for a change of attitude. It is a crucial moment to become aware of the need to reconsider our relationship with the Earth and connect with the universal essence that we share.

In the current exhibition, sculpture, photography, sound performance, and audiovisual media are the tools used to channel these reflections. Wordplay, bilingualism, and polysemy are also, in this case especially, part of it.

The multidisciplinary work of the artist is characterized by a careful materialization of the pieces. Collaborating with artisans and technicians, she refines each material, each form, and each procedure until the idea is fully realized. The result is synthetic images that aspire to the essential, the conceptual, and at the same time, the poetic.

In the Aljub space, various allusions to time are housed: sick hourglasses that remind us that time is disturbed,;epiphanic clocks with supernatural hands made of shadow and flower, writing leading to infinity, rhythmic time of mantras, time of gestures that make and unmake the variability of eternal return...

We will also find keys: keys of clay and stone, bilingual keys full of polysemy, keys that open doors of consciousness, keys to cross the threshold leading to other dimensions…

And allusions to the earth, to the telluric, to the earth-matter that points to the universe connecting the extremes, as this artist often does.

Full of metaphorical suggestions, the overall work delves into the relationship between the earthly and spiritual realms, appealing to mystery as a way of approaching the invisible from the visible. A careful reading will reveal its full communicative power and uncover the concepts and reflections hidden beneath its aesthetic and poetic. appearance.
