Showcase - Casal Solleric

1, 2, 3... Acció! – Nit de l’Art 2023

Robert Ferrer I Martorell is an artist who is characterised by making daring and seductive readings of space read as an installation. This is precisely what he does for this proposal in the ShowCase of the Casal Solleric, centred on the fragmentation of matter and which is related to other projects of his such as the recent Límites variables for the Centro de Arte Caja Burgos or his regular exhibitions at the Espai Valverde in Madrid or Pep Llabrés Contemporani in Palma.

Porta oberta is based on a compact sheet of golden metal housed in the front of the display case, from which a series of elements of the same material emerge, giving the sensation of being an impeller of matter. The metal breaks up into a multitude of fragments suspended in the air that orbit independently and move away in search of their expansion towards the exterior. The function of these suspended rods is to bring movement to the whole in order to support the idea of the disintegration of the wall, playing with light and its temperature. As each one has an independent movement, they modify the general vision at every moment, giving it rhythm and constant change. These rods, as a transit of matter emerging from the wall, create a visual path towards the exterior to produce the sensation of escape. The glass case acts as a container for the matter, as if a large box were holding it, and at times it gives the sensation that all these elements could occupy the public space.

Ferrer i Martorell’s work has been shown at the Peruvian gallery with which he works (Now Gallery), at fairs such as ARCO and Estampa (both in Madrid), Untitled Miami and Art Lima, at the Galerie Lina Davidov in Paris and at the Cervantes Institute in the same city. His work can be found in collections such as Phillips Collection, Eduardo Hochschild, Agnes Rein, Colección de Arte Contemporáneo de la Generalitat Valenciana and Palma City Council.
